Next month marks the end of our third year as Victorians, and as time goes on I’m gradually feeling more and more at home in this city.
This time of year in Melbourne is probably my favourite too – sunny blue skies and warm breezes make more frequent appearances and photographing events on days like these is a great way to spend a work day. I’ve been lucky to photograph all sorts of celebrations and happenings around town and always appreciate the chance to see another side of the city I call home. Weddings have taken me to beautiful venues around the Melbourne region and the corporate events I shoot has opened doors I never imagined I’d peek behind!
I spent yesterday morning at Flemington Racecourse for Oaks Day preparations with Ed Dixon Food Design. The girls were out for Ladies Day, frocked up and fascinated, and someone had to make sure the champagne was on ice. The EDFD team were ready and waiting with fresh flowers, chilled bubbles and plenty of delicious fare for the crowds that slowly made their way down Flemington Drive and into The Nursery, up to The Domain or trackside at The Rails.
What really blew me away (apart from the helicopter chauffeurs) were the roses. Hundreds of thousands of flowers all perfectly coordinated to bloom this week – I have no idea how they make that happen but the effect is worth the effort. Here a few of my favourite shots from the morning.
