Morgan and Mitch were married at O’Leary Walker Wines in the Clare Valley. It’s about a 90 minute drive from Adelaide, in the heart of South Australia’s wine region. They have only recently started hosting weddings, but their Cellar Door Manager, Amanda, is lovely to work with and eager to please. The views from the verndah are amazing, and the wine isn’t too bad either!

I also set up a photo booth for guests at the reception, which was well-used throughout the night. You can check out a quick video (less than 2 minutes) of the shenanigans as the night progressed on this page.

My Nanna is 90 this year, and I’m making her a book. I am scanning as many old photos as I can find from her life, and collecting them in one history to keep and read many times over. Some of the yellowed prints are the only memory of an old friend, a relative – and now we can compile these into her story. Of course she will get the First Edition, and other members of the family can have copies too. She can take it to her weekly bridge game, to share with her friends (she still drives, but the way). Her great-grandchildren can take it to school for Show & Tell. And I can keep it on my bookcase, to take down and browse without worrying about flat batteries.

I love the process of going through a photo session, arranging the photos on a page, and adding the details to tell the whole story. My eyes go square sitting in front of my computer for the hours it takes to create, but when I’m curled up on the couch, leafing through and remembering that day, that holiday, that person’s life, the headache fades away and it could be any point in time, but that book will always work.

Ah, young love. Being somewhat of spring chicken myself, I started out photographing people older than me. It wasn’t long until my friends started getting married, and all of a sudden I feel like I’m the one taking her time, as PYTs (ask Michael Jackson) everywhere are tying the knot and bringing down that national average. Good on them I reckon – when you’re onto a good thing, you know it.

Joel and Verity are just that – a good thing. Cute as buttons and with plenty of plans for their future together. I was really excited to be a part of their day, having known Joel and his family for a good number of years – my Mum and I both worked with his Dad when I was in uni. I also loved that these kids were pretty happy to do silly things like play on playgrounds and hang out at railway stations.

With lots of DIY touches and contributions from friends and family, the day was truly a representation of two kids in love. Verity’s friend Paul, aka Paulo Sebastian designed and made all the girl’s dresses, and another lent the cars. Their reception was held at Sunnybrae Function Centre.

Joel is also a total romantic. Verity’s favourite movie is Love Actually, and had mentioned more than once how much she loved the surprise band in the wedding scene. ‘As if that would ever happen,’ said Joel. At the church, while we were waiting for Verity to arrive, Joel made sure to tell me he had a surprise up his sleeve and to be ready with the camera as they turned to walk down the aisle. Thank goodness he did, because as the band on the balcony started to play, Verity lost it.

After all, all you need is love.

In March, I was published internationally in Vanity Fair UK, featuring travel photos from around South Australia. Simon and I travelled to China, Singapore and Europe, stopping by the Vogue offices in London to pick up some copies of the magazine

In May we moved to Darwin, and explored a number of spots in Darwin and the Northern Territory. I met some lovely Darwin families for both weddings and family photos, all while enjoying northern Australia’s tropical climate, culture and cuisine.

In October I went back to Adelaide for The AIPP Event, picking up all sorts of inspirations and making plans for bigger and better things for Urban Safari Photographer. I’ve just posted some photos from my last job in Darwin, and what a job it was! Short of meeting him, photographing the President of the USA and our own Australian Prime Minister was a completely awesome experience. Earlier in the year, I met Kevin Rudd, our foreign minister and ex-Prime Minister, so it’s been politicians all round!

With a number of friend’s weddings in Adelaide over the last 6 months, and 3 coming up in February, I shall be well prepared for my own after getting engaged on the last day of 2011 to my partner-in-crime, Simon. We were on a rock-climbing trip in the Blue Mountains, and took a rest day to see the Three Sisters and Katoomba Falls when he pulled out a little black box and a bit of bling! We are stoked and looking forward to planning our wedding for February, 2013.

Caught up in the hustle on the press riser, I stood shoulder to shoulder with some very hard-working press photographers and news crews and felt very, very lucky to be inside that hangar, on the base, on that day.
